What is the best bank switch offer right now?
The honest answer to "what is the best switch offer right now?" changes every few weeks, which is why our live table is refreshed automatically every Monday rather than written by hand.
The more useful question is how to compare offers, because the highest headline figure is regularly not the one that pays out fastest, or at all, for your circumstances.
Start with what you can actually qualify for
Almost every offer excludes people who have held an account with that banking group recently, or who have claimed a switch bonus from it before. An £250 offer you are barred from is worth less than a £150 offer you can claim today.
- Check the banking group, not just the brand — HSBC and First Direct, Lloyds and Halifax, NatWest and RBS all share exclusions.
- Check the cut-off dates in the exclusion wording, which are usually written as "since 1 January" of a given year.
- Check whether joint accounts count, if you plan to switch one.
Then price in the conditions
Two offers with the same headline cash can be very different once you account for what you have to do to earn it.
- Minimum pay-in: can you move that amount in within the window without disrupting bills?
- Debit card payments: some offers require a set number in the first month or two.
- Monthly fee: a paid account eats into the bonus for every month you keep it.
- Regular saver funding: generous on paper, but it locks up cash.
- Direct debits: usually two active ones on the account you are switching away from.
Finally, look at speed and deadlines
Offers with a stated end date are worth prioritising, because withdrawal happens at short notice — sometimes with a day's warning. Offers described as ongoing can usually wait.
Payout time matters too. Some banks pay within 30 days of the switch completing; others wait until the end of a 60-day qualifying window.
Where to see today's answer
Our current offers page lists everything we are tracking with the requirements next to each amount, and each bank has its own page covering eligibility, timeline and how to switch. If you would rather not check, the Monday email alert tells you when an offer is new or has increased.
Common questions
- Should I always take the biggest offer?
- No. Take the biggest offer whose conditions you can comfortably meet and whose eligibility rules you pass. A bonus you fail to qualify for pays nothing.
- How often do the best offers change?
- Frequently — new rounds and withdrawals happen most months, which is why we re-check the market every week.
