New bank account offers in the UK: how to find the best ones
UK banks regularly offer cash, perks or better rates to win new customers. The biggest deals are almost always switch bonuses: you get paid for moving your current account to them.
These 'bank specials for new accounts' come and go quickly. Our current offers page lists every live one, updated weekly. This guide explains how to read them and choose well.
The main types of new account offer
- Cash switch bonuses — a one-off payment for a full switch using the Current Account Switch Service. Usually the most valuable.
- Perks and rewards — things like cashback, monthly rewards or linked savings rates for keeping the account.
- Packaged accounts — a monthly fee in exchange for extras such as insurance. Only worth it if you'd use the extras.
What the conditions usually mean
- Full switch — you must move your account through the Current Account Switch Service, not just open a new one.
- Direct debits — a set number of active direct debits must move across with the switch.
- Pay in — a minimum amount must be paid in within a time limit.
- Eligibility — many offers exclude people who've recently had an account with that bank or its group.
- Deadline — offers can end early, so apply before the stated date.
How to compare offers
Don't just look at the headline amount. A slightly smaller bonus with easy conditions is often better than a big one you can't realistically meet.
Check you're eligible, check you can meet the pay-in amount, and make sure the account you're switching has the direct debits it needs.
